Works great, but be careful with the threaded end -- do NOT try to overtighten it as it can snap the threads off -- mine became cracked after I tightened it a bit too much but that didn't interfere with it's operation. I've been using it for quite some time now to charge a small car battery in our chicken coop to open the door automatically. It's nice and small and just does the job. This is a great little unit. It is easy to install, the instructions are clear, and it is completely weatherproof. Much better than some of the others out there. Still this is a little pricey but I would buy it againI've had other Morningstar charge controllers, they're all well designed and reliable. This unit is being used for a portable solar charging system for amateur radio work.Good price¡ Good service¡great productI added a solar panel to the truck to keep the battery up while camping. Just a little 70W panel. Connected to the single truck battery. Needed a good simple charge controller. Lots and lots of research I finally got the SK6. Of the few charge controllers that advertise the dark current (draw on the battery with no solar input, at night) this was the lowest I could find. Wasn't sure how well this charge controller would play with the alternator on the truck. The answer is that it works just fine. It has been running for a couple years now. So good I often take extra batteries (typically the boat battery) and just hook it up parallel to the truck battery and leave it parked in the sun for a day. End of the day all the batteries are fully charged. It is a just a solid, simple charge controller. No extra bells and whistles, not trying to control the load. It's just a charge controller.I mounted mine in the kick panel. Out of the way, out of direct sun, fairly reasonable temperatures, and an easy to splice into the wiring of the truck mounted there. I can stick my head under the dash and check the status LED if that is ever needed. This thing is like $28.00 at Northern Arizona Wind and Sun, plus about $8.00 to ship it.Fast and correct item, to use on solar gate controller ???
